Houston’s mayor and police department are rolling out a big new initiative to tackle road rage and reckless driving, especially on I-45 and US-59—two of the city’s busiest highways.

Officers are out in force, handing out tickets for speeding, tailgating, and aggressive lane changes, all to make the roads safer for everyone.

Since the crackdown began, around 300 tickets have already been issued, and drivers say they’re hoping this extra enforcement will finally help calm things down out there.

The city’s seen a sharp rise in road rage incidents over the past few years, so officials are urging everyone to stay cool behind the wheel and avoid engaging with aggressive drivers.

There’s no set end date for the increased patrols, but city leaders say this is just the start of a broader push to make Houston’s highways less stressful and a lot safer for daily commuters
