What’s up with the Houston housing market?

If you’re keeping an eye on Houston’s housing market, things are looking pretty steady for the next couple of years.

Home prices are expected to go up a bit-think somewhere between 2% and 5%-with the biggest jumps likely in those popular suburbs and spots close to major job hubs.

Thanks to Houston’s strong job market and more people moving in, we’ll probably see a slight bump in home sales too.

What’s really interesting is that inventory is set to hit its highest level in eight years, so buyers should have way more choices than before. Even though mortgage rates are still up there, Houston is still one of the more affordable big cities to buy a home, especially if you’re looking for something under $400,000 or in the suburbs.

And if buying isn’t in the cards, the rental market is heating up too, with rents expected to keep climbing as more folks choose to rent. All in all, Houston’s housing scene looks solid, with steady price growth and plenty of demand on the horizon.

Houston Is Sinking Faster Than Any Other Major U.S. City, Study Finds
Here’s some wild news: Houston is officially sinking faster than any other big city in the country. A new study found that about 42% of Houston is dropping more than 5 millimeters a year, mostly because of all the groundwater we’re pumping out. While it’s not something you’ll notice day to day, over time this slow sinking can mess with roads, buildings, and even make flooding worse. Experts say we need better groundwater management and more monitoring to keep Houston’s foundations safe for the future. Read More
