Trivia
The Astrodome opened in 1965, but in June of 1976, it hosted a legendary concert by who? 🎤🎶🤔 |
Answer at the bottom of the newsletter 😉

Terry Black’s BBQ, one of Texas’ most beloved barbecue institutions, is officially making its Houston debut in the Heights at 1311 N. Shepherd Drive.
The Black family has been buying up nearly two acres in the area since 2021, and their plans go way beyond just barbecue—they’re also building a boutique hotel made up of cozy bungalow-style rooms, plus a unique bathhouse and landscaped courtyards to round out the experience.
The idea is to create a true neighborhood hangout, not just a spot for out-of-towners, and the vibe will be all about comfort and community.
As for the food, expect the same Central Texas-style smoked meats that put Terry Black’s on the map—think brisket, pork ribs, and sausage, all done the old-school way.
Construction on the 8,300-square-foot smokehouse is set to start in August 2025, with hopes to open the restaurant in the first half of 2026 and the hotel following in 2027. It’s a big move for the Black family, and Houston’s barbecue scene is about to get even better

Restaurant Spotlight
Bar-A-BBQ over in 21149 Eva St, Montgomery, TX 77356 is one of those spots you hear about and think, “Is it really that good?”—and then you try it, and yeah, it’s that good.
This place has a real down-home Texas vibe, with super friendly staff, a menu full of smoky, tender meats, and sides that’ll have you coming back for more.
The brisket is melt-in-your-mouth tender, the ribs are juicy with just the right kick, and don’t even get me started on the cheesy tater casserole and brisket dirty rice.
Just a heads up: they sell out fast, so get there early if you want the full spread. And if you’re lucky, you might even snag some free beer while you wait in line!
Brisket, ribs, and jalapeño cheddar sausage are absolute must-tries—the bark and smoke are spot on.
Sides like cheesy tater casserole and brisket dirty rice are local legends.
Portions are generous and everything is super fresh, but when it’s gone, it’s gone.
The staff is genuinely welcoming and make you feel right at home.
There’s indoor and outdoor seating, but space fills up fast, especially on weekends

Trivia Answer: The legendary King of Rock and Roll, “Elvis Presley”, brought his iconic stage presence to a massive Houston audience at the Astrodome.
Fun Fact: The June 1976 shows were not his first appearance at the Astrodome; he had previously performed there for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo in both 1970 and 1974, setting attendance records each time.
